Well, we are barely 2 weeks into the new NFL
season, and breaking today yet another scandal rocking the multi-billion dollar
enterprise. Adrian Peterson was
indicted today for alleged child abuse charges. Seems "AP" has an affinity for
raising his kids with a firm hand. Now,
I don't know if the charges are true, although "AP" has testified in
front of a grand jury and according to sources cooperated fully with the
investigation.
The Minnesota Vikings
have de-activated him for Sundays game, and of course have the Vikings have
released a statement stating " We are in the process of gathering
information regarding the legal situation involving Adrian Peterson".
The alleged victim is 4 years old..... 4
YEARS OLD! The NFL is a billion dollar
corporation with multi-million dollar athlete's like Peterson, that drive the
success and ratings of the NFL.
There
has been a rising tide lately of illicit, immoral and unacceptable behavior
from these athletes. Perhaps, the NFL and Roger Goodell have turned a blind eye
to this behavior, a blind eye that only until recently in the Ray Rice Case has
been uncovered!
It is NEVER acceptable
to strike a woman and NEVER acceptable to strike a child! If these charges are true, and the findings
dealt within the criminal justice system, then Peterson needs to pay the piper!
But it goes way beyond just that. There seems to be no moral compass with some
of the high profile athletes, especially within the NFL. When you are a super star athlete there is a
sense of entitlement and being untouchable.
However, you cannot assassinate ones character if there is an inherent
flaw already there. I love the NFL, and
love watching it with my son. But I am
getting sick and tired in this short season of trying to explain to him just
what is going on with these athletes that are supposed to be role models! I do know this, there will be football come Sunday,
and million of fans will be cheering their favorite teams and I will be one of
them. However, lets not forget that
there are victims to abuse, and that those victims need not be forgotten and
those who perpetrate the abuse will be brought to justice!
