This latest move has to
have been coordinated by Joe Biden, since it's something as dumb as Joe would
do; that is, if he was given the chance
to come out from his latest misbehavior "time out".
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join President Obama for dinner on Monday and attend a State Department lunch the next day. But there's one hitch.
Modi won't eat any of the food.
The new prime minister is in the midst of a nine-day fast dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga and consumes only water or lemon water. His first visit to Washington as leader of the world's largest democracy, for his first meeting with Obama, raises the prospect of the fasting Modi conducting his nation's business at tables where multiple courses of food are being served.
Knowing that the Indian Prime Minister won't be eating during this so called working dinner makes no sense, unless it was intended to denigrate the Indian Prime Minister or his mission to meet with President Poor Manners. There is no excuse for treating a foreign dignitary in this manner, especially one that the United States wants to continue to court as a valuable ally in the region of the Indian Subcontinent.
And then we get this idiotic comment from Josh Earnest, White Press Secretary and Prince of Ignorance.
"If Prime Minister Modi or other members who are participating in that working dinner ... choose not to eat based on their own religious or cultural observance, then we'll certainly work to accommodate their needs as best we can," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters. I'm not
confident by any means that the White House can even come up with water laced
with lemon juice to satisfy the dietary needs of the Prime Minister Modi.
But, that's just me, based upon watching this White House for the past six
years and their ability to screw up things as simple as the diplomatic protocol
for a foreign head of state.
