Just as the Bush brand
name has worn itself out with 12 years of father and son presidencies, I'm
thinking the Obama brand reached it's high point in the 2012 election
cycle. Since then it's been in an out-of-control tailspin as Obama has
managed to guide the world, and particularly the Middle East, into chaos.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the "smartest president ever."
With my perverse sense
of political humor, I have found it absolutely entertaining that Obama has
turned out to be a political pariah for all the Democrats running for election
in the midterm congressional elections on November 4th. As much as I
think that Obama is incompetent to be the leader of the free world, that does
not imply that he has no political savvy. Even Obama could read the
handwriting on the wall. He is a political liability to his party as
their former touchstone for political success.
Obama, to his credit,
quickly adapted to the reality before him. Obama has done the next best
thing. He has gone out to raise funds for the Democrat Party. Now,
Obama hasn't done this out of the goodness of his heart. Obama plans to
be an active force, if not the major force, in the Democrat Party for years to
come. In particular, Obama wants to be the king maker for the next
Democratic candidate for the presidency, and it isn't Hillary, but that's a
discussion for another time. Back to the present.
The public magic of
the gifted campaigner seems to have worn off and has been replaced by the magic
of the glad handler of the Democrat Party as Fundraiser in Chief. Now to
be completely forthright, I have to hand it to Obama for his gift of talking
people out of their good sense and their tons of money, much like Bernie Madoff
of Wall Street fraud fame. The difference is that Madoff didn't destroy
the economy with his billion-dollar fraud and didn't reduce America's standing
in the world to just above mediocre. That dishonor has been left to
Barack Obama.
