New Hampshire U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen
apparently is out to prove that women everywhere can be the equal to men when
it comes to questionable ethical behavior and poor political optics.
Before we get into the grist of Shaheen's trouble with ethics, let's see what
Shaheen has been up to on the political scene in her campaign against
Republican Scoot Brown, to retain her senate seat.
Hint: Things are
not going well at all for Shaheen. Shaheen blew off a scheduled debate
with Brown and another debate already scheduled in October. Does the
phrase "bad optics" come to anyone's mind?
RINDGE, N.H. — Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen and GOP challenger Scott Brown yesterday engaged in long-distance warfare in their U.S. Senate battle as Shaheen launched a new attack on Brown but refused to do it face-to-face.
Brown, the former Massachusetts senator, appeared at Franklin Pierce University for what was originally slated as a Senate faceoff, one of several election debates co-sponsored by the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication, but he ended up being alone on stage because Shaheen had declined to show up. It should be noted that Shaheen is running well behind Scott Brown in her re-election bid, as her numbers are in the low 40's to Brown's numbers in the upper 40's. Anytime a sitting politician is polling in the low 40's and the opponent is polling in the high 40's, disaster has befallen the sitting politician. We can only hope that statistics are on the 'right' side of this electoral outcome.
Now on to the real meat of Shaheen's ethical dilemma and it's a really big problem. From a Daily Caller exclusive comes this bombshell news.
Towns in New Hampshire and Maine placed 21 different liens against properties owned by Democratic Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen’s husband, who manages the couple’s real estate business, according to local property records obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller.
People owed money by the Shaheens, therefore, successfully compelled local governments on 21 occasions to issue liens against properties owned by the couple in order to get their money back from insurance companies before the Shaheens could profit further.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a former governor and pro-IRS targeting advocate running for re-election to the U.S. Senate against Scott Brown, and her lawyer husband William “Bill” Shaheen, a principal at the firm Shaheen & Gordon, file taxes jointly. The couple, married since 1972, has between $3.7 million and $7.9 million in assets and between $2 million and $4.2 million in liabilities. As an observer of
politics, I'm predicting this revelation, coupled with the poor optics of
backing out of any further debates with Scott Brown, will be the final undoing
of the Shaheen campaign. It may not be the singular force in Shaheen's
campaign demise, but it certainly could be and perhaps should be. Despite
arguments to the contrary, Shaheen has demonstrated she is an Obama team player
and thus virtually a rubber stamp for his radical liberal agenda.
