Monica Lewinsky came
out of the woodwork over the past weekend to speak on her troubles resulting
from her inappropriate sexual relationship with a president of the United
States. I desperately want Monica to return to the woodwork as soon as
possible. Her personal experience was a terrible time for America.
For
some reason only known to Monica Lewinsky herself, she has decided to come out
and regale America about her treatment by the Internet some 16 years ago, when
she had engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with then President Bill
Clinton. Frankly, I don't want to hear that Monica is now reconstituting
herself as some kind of role model to help women in similar situations.
Granted, Monica was
only 22 years old when her inappropriate sexual relationship with Bill Clinton
began in 1995. But, it wasn't a one-time thing as it went on for some
time. Monica was a young, adult woman. Clinton was the
quintessential 'dirty old man' in this sick morality play that captured the
news for far too long and resulted in congressional hearings that lead to
impeachment charges to be drawn up against President Clinton and then resulted
in a Senate trial. Of course Clinton was found not guilty of the charges
on purely political grounds and considerations. The problem with this
entire sordid experience is that it endangered the continuity of our government
and only exacerbated the political divide between Americans, not to mention
making America the laughing stock of the world.
So Monica, let's let
sleeping dogs lie; move on and return to your private life. If you need
to release all the demons in your soul, try psychiatric counseling and therapy
sessions. America needs to put this sordid episode in the rearview mirror
of history and so does Monica. Godspeed Monica! Exit stage left
please.
